Mumka uses the following materials to make its footwear: Exterior: Synthetic Leather (100% polyurethane - PU); Interior: Cotton Coating; Ink: Solvent Free Materials Used. Please note, that on their website, each shoe, boot and sandals lists these same exact materials, which seems inaccurate given some models clearly don't use cotton - this erodes our trust in the brand.

Are Mumka shoes eco-friendly/sustainable?

Given that Mumka shoes have polyurethane (PU) listed as the main material used, they generally wouldn't be considered to be very environmentally friendly, depending on the specific composition of that PU (for example, a traditionally made fossil fuel-derived PU is much less eco-friendly than a plant oil-derived PU that's solvent-free and uses a recycled polyester backing).

With regard to fair labour, the brand states, "At Mumka we care about people and we take special care of all our workers who participate in the manufacturing process of our products, as well as you, who enjoy them. That is why our main policy is Fair Trade, which means that we do not use child labor or any trace of abusive or degrading working conditions." Being that their shoes are made in Turkey, it's difficult for us as an outside, non-certifying 3rd party to verify whether or not Mumka ensures its factory enforces all international and local labour laws, regulations and fair working standards to provide a safe and fair working environment for their workers. While Turkish labour laws are generally seen to be fair, their labour market (specifically their textile industry) is not without its faults.

Does Mumka promote ‘slow fashion’ or a ‘circular economy’?

It's unclear which slow fashion (ethically made, long-lasting, small batch production) or circular economy principles Mumka follows as a brand, if any.
