What is a vegan and cruelty-free nail product?

The term “vegan” with regard to nail products, refers to nail care and styling accessories, oils and other products, that do not contain animal derived or sourced ingredients or materials. The term “cruelty-free” means a product and its ingredients aren’t tested on animals. However, those that are both vegan and cruelty-free don’t have any animal derived or sourced ingredients, and none of the ingredients are tested on animals.

What animal ingredients are found in “other” nail products?

Some nail care and style accessories and related products, such as cuticle oil, can contain animal ingredients like gelatin and lanolin. Lanolin is thought to act as an emollient that moisturizes nails. Gelatin is thought to strengthen nails. But the fact is these ingredients aren’t necessary in nail care and styling products; the best way to strengthen and care for your nails is through a strong, healthy diet…and not doing things like manual labour with freshly manicured nails.
