What materials are used to make Flamingos Life shoes?

According to Flamingos Life, the outsoles of all of their collections are made with 30% natural rubber; the insoles are made with 50% cork and 50% natural rubber; the lining is made from bamboo or organic cotton; the laces and lining on the insole are made with organic cotton; the uppers are made from corn waste (47%) coming from a non-food part of the plant, recycled polyester (28%) and polyurethane (25%); some details on the uppers are made with recycled polyester from plastic bottles. Please note: when we asked them about their glues, they simply responded by saying "our shoes are 100% vegan and plant-based".

Flamingos Life shoes could be considered quite eco-friendly, and for two main reasons: the first, is based around the nature of the materials they're composed of, which consist of many natural, organic, plant-based and recycled materials. The second, is related to the resources used to produce those materials, and turn them into shoes, which, in comparison with "some leather shoes," involves 80% less water use, 65% less CO2 emissions, and 61% less PO4 emissions. Yes! Flamingos Life shoes are handcrafted in Spain (within 40km of Elche), which means their labourers are protected by the stringent labour laws of the European Union, which also include strong health and safety regulations.

How should I dispose of my worn out Flamingos Life shoes?

We have asked the Flamingos Life team if they currently have, or are developing, a shoe recycling program, and they have informed us that "developing a program to ensure minimum waste generation is something that is definitely in our plans." In the meantime, we recommend either trying to have them repaired, donating them to someone in need, or taking them to a clothing recycling depot (if available in your city), which can strip them down to their recyclable components.
