Is LAMODA an ethically vegan brand?
LAMODA appears to be an intentionally and ethically vegan brand, rather than one that uses vegan materials out of convenience, or for other reasons. According to the brand, "You heard it here first. LAMODA is Vegan friendly. We know some of our shoes have a rough exterior, however, they were made with a conscious mind and a love for all living things!"What materials are used to make LAMODA shoes & boots?
LAMODA mainly uses vegan leather-look materials for their uppers. Unfortunately they don't provide much detail with regard to what those materials are made of (such as PU or plant-based bio-leather). They also don't provide any details as to the materials used for the rest of their shoes and boots. We have reached out for clarification and are awaiting reply. Are the materials used to make LAMODA footwear eco-friendly/sustainable?
It's difficult to assess the eco-friendliness of LAMODA’s footwear, as we don't know the exact composition of their shoes, and cannot find any relevant data on their website. Generally speaking, however, vegan leathers are less harmful to the environment that animal-derived leathers - this is backed up by data from inside the fashion industry as well as outside. For the data, please see Collective Fashion Justice’s CIRCUMFAUNA initiative.Does production of LAMODA shoes & boots create a lot of CO2 emissions?
From a carbon footprint, water usage, chemical usage, and general natural resource usage standpoint, it's difficult to asses the impact that LAMODA has, and what they do to remediate it. LAMODA does not currently provide data as to their environmental impact or remediation efforts, so it's difficult to accurately asses them in either of these regards.Does LAMODA use green shipping methods?
It's unclear from their website if LAMODA uses net-zero or negative emissions shipping partners, either domestically or internationally. We’ve asked them for clarification, and are currently awaiting reply.Does LAMODA use eco-friendly packaging?
It's unclear from their website if LAMODA uses recycled, recyclable, compostable, or other forms of eco-friendly and sustainable packaging. We’ve asked them for details regarding the materials they use for packaging, and are currently awaiting reply. Are LAMODA shoes recyclable or compostable?
It’s unclear from the information available on their website if LAMODA’s shoes are recyclable or compostable. We’ve asked for clarification from the LAMODA team, and are currently awaiting reply. How should I dispose of my worn out LAMODA footwear?
We’ve asked the LAMODA team if they currently have, or are developing, a shoe recycling program, and are awaiting reply. In the meantime, Get it Vegan recommends either trying to have them repaired, donating them to someone in need, or taking them to a clothing recycling depot (if available in your city), which can strip them down to their recyclable components.Where can I buy LAMODA shoes?
LAMODA shoes can be purchased from their website, or from their social channels. We've asked them if they have plans to work with retailers, and are currently awaiting reply.Do LAMODA shoes & boots ever go on sale?
Yes - there’s a “Sale” section of their website, and we noticed sales advertised in the area of 30, 50, & 70% when we visited. By signing up to their newsletter, you are also eligible for "exclusive offers," and the site often has a popup sale banner, which was advertising a sale of 25% at the time we last visited. LAMODA also offers students a 20% discount via partnership with Student Beans. Are LAMODA shoes ethically made?
LAMODA shoes & boots are made in China, so it's difficult for us as an outside, non-certifying 3rd party to verify whether or not LAMODA ensures its factory enforces all international and local labour laws, regulations and fair working standards to provide a safe and fair working environment for their workers. They do say that they "work collaboratively with our factories so that there is a proactive approach to ensuring that we maintain our standards." We have asked LAMODA what kind of procedures they have in place to ensure their products are being made with fair labour, and are awaiting reply.Does LAMODA promote ‘slow fashion’ or a ‘circular economy’?
In our estimation, a circular economy is not something on LAMODA's agenda. Despite their claims to "being open to sustainability suggestions," it's obvious that LAMODA is likely the exact opposite of a circular economy/slow fashion company. For example: they use manufacturing labour from a country known for its lack of human/worker rights; they mass-produce goods; they produce seasonal goods; they use non-environmentally friendly synthetic materials; they don't incorporate natural or recycled materials; they overproduce which results in new shoes being sent to the landfill; and they offer their footwear for incredibly low prices (which means someone who isn't the consumer is 'paying for it,' so to speak). Basically, their business model is in direct conflict with the slow fashion movement as it promotes the mass and constant consumption of low-cost goods.Related Brands
