Is Pīferi an ethically vegan brand?

Without question - according to the brand's Founder himself, Alfredo Pīferi, "Vegan shoes made divine’ isn't just Pīferi’s motto, it’s our core mission: changing the perception of vegan footwear by creating extraordinary, animal-free sustainable shoes. This has been my goal since the day I started Pīferi."

What materials are used to make their shoes?

Pīferi uses a variety of materials to make their shoes, boots, and sandals, including: BIOVEG-certified vegan Nappa for many of the range's uppers (composed of 48% bio polyols derived from non food and GMO-free field corn); Forest Stewardship Council-certified cellulose insoles for all of the brand's range; Recycled ABS for the heels (a recycled plastic compound that is also widely considered more durable, longer-lasting, and easier to recycle than PVC); and Thunit for all of the brand's soles (a 100% recyclable rubber-based material). The brand also uses vegan satin & crystals as embellishments/adornment on some models.

Are their shoes eco-friendly/sustainable?

While it's difficult to quantify how sustainable a shoe truly is, Pīferi seems to make a great effort to include durable and relatively earth-friendly materials into their designs. They could be considered at least somewhat eco-friendly, as they do incorporate natural materials (such as FSC-certified cellulose for their liners), recylcable materials (such as the Thunit for their soles), bio-based synthetic blended vegan blended leather (such as their BIOVEG-certified bio-vegan Nappa is composed of 48% bio polyols derived from non-food and GMO-free field corn), and recycled materials (such as their vegan suede, which is made using 100% recycled PET). They also focus on material and product durability, which is a key factor in sustainability.

Does production of their shoes create a lot of CO2 emissions?

From a carbon footprint standpoint, it's difficult to asses the impact that Pīferi has, and what they do to remediate it. However, they do share data on their primary material - their vegan Nappa leather; according to the brand, "Compared to traditional production methods, the processes used to make our bio-vegan Nappa have a 13% lighter carbon footprint, use 44% less energy, and reduce by 32% CFC emissions."

Does Pīferi use green shipping methods?

In the meantime, Get it Vegan recommends either trying to have them repaired, donating them to someone in need, or taking them to a clothing recycling depot (if available in your city), which can strip them down to their recyclable components.
