What materials are used to make Lane Eight gym/training shoes?
Lane Eight uses a combination of natural, recycled and virgin synthetic materials to make their vegan gym/training shoes. For example, for their uppers, they either use recycled plastic yarn (for their AD 1 Trainers), or a 100% plant-based material from TENCEL that’s derived from eucalyptus and cotton (for their HIIT Trainer). Their sock liners are composed of ETPU pellets in a PU matrix, and they've partnered with BLOOM to incorporate natural algae foam into their midsoles. They also use vegan microfibre (a suede analog) for their overlays. They do not however, mention what the soles of their shoes are made of (we have reached out to them to find out, and are awaiting reply). Are the materials used to make Lane Eight shoes eco-friendly/sustainable?
Not all of the materials used in Lane Eight shoes can be considered sustainable, as they do use incorporate virgin plastic into their shoes (such as their ETPU sock liners). However, their main upper materials are considered quite eco-friendly, as they use either recycled or natural materials for those. Their Trainer AD 1’s knit upper is made from recycled plastic yarn, with the brand claiming that every pair utilizes 11 bottles worth of recycled single-use plastic, and their HIIT Trainer uses a 100% plant-based material from TENCEL that’s derived from eucalyptus and cotton.Does production of Lane Eight shoes create a lot of CO2 emissions?
